Oct 2007 Jay Miller (91-94) Drink: N/A $40 (40)

The 2005 Shiraz “Gunslinger” was tasted from a barrel sample. It is aging in 60% American and 40% French oak, 80% new. Purple-colored, it offers up notes of pain grille, saddle leather, violets, blackberry, and blueberry compote. Plush and layered, there are gobs of spicy blue and black fruits, superb balance, and a long pure finish.
As the name subtly suggests, Binder-Mitchell is a partnership of two highly talented winemakers, Kevin Mitchell of Kilikanoon and the Clare Valley and Rolf Binder of the Barossa Valley and his own namesake winery.
